Penn State Information Technology is dedicated to implementing innovative solutions to support students, faculty, and staff. As Penn State’s largest single IT unit, we strive to find, create, and share services, tools, and training that meet the evolving technological, academic, and business needs of those we serve. Using IT to move Penn State forward is our most important pursuit, and we’re committed to improving our services, cultivating our talented workforce, becoming more efficient, revamping IT infrastructures, and promoting a culture of openness and respect.

Penn State IT is a dynamic group of 550 IT professionals who love technology and its power to transform. We use our collective knowledge and experience to help people, solve problems, and support Penn State’s teaching, research, and service mission. We value teamwork and collaboration and focus on promoting the growth of our staff through local and national professional development opportunities and programs. Diversity of people, ideas, and actions; civility toward each other and those we work with; and a positive workplace climate are what we practice and encourage in Penn State IT and throughout the University.

Our senior leaders bring their own blend of expertise and experience to Penn State IT and the Univeristy. Many also hold positions of influence on committees and working groups throughout higher education and IT organizations nationwide. Leaders at all levels of  Penn State IT—managers, team leads, and staff—help guide our organization and its people.

Administrative Information Services

Provides modern, secure student and business information systems that support teaching, learning, research, customer service, and commerce at the University.

Identity Services

Manages and protects the digital identities of Penn State students, faculty, staff, and affiliates and oversees access to online University resources.

Penn State Data Centers

Protects mission-critical University assets by providing three secure, reliable facilities for departments to store and back up their research and business data.

Services and Solutions

Serves the Penn State community by providing customer service, sharing innovative IT solutions, and helping customers reimagine the ways they work.

Teaching and Learning with Technology

Collaborates with faculty, instructional designers, and students to promote creative and innovative uses of technology to enrich teaching and learning at Penn State.

Telecommunications and Networking Services

Delivers comprehensive telecommunications and networking services to connect Penn Staters and our partners throughout the world.

IT Communications

Connects people with information and each other and provides communications support for Penn State IT.

Penn State IT Financial Services

Manages the finances and fiscal planning for Penn State IT.

Penn State IT Human Resources

Assists Penn State IT staff members with professional development planning, benefits, problem resolution, and human resources policies and procedures.

IT Planning and Resources

Facilitates planning initiatives across IT, including strategic planning and facilities management for Penn State IT.

Penn State IT works closely with Penn State Finance and Business to support the evolving human, financial, physical, and environmental needs of the University.

Office of the Vice President for Commonwealth Campuses

Penn State IT collaborates with the Office of the Vice President for Commonwealth Campuses to ensure common technological experiences and standards for students, faculty, and staff at Penn State’s nineteen undergraduate campuses.

IT is one of Penn State’s most important assets, and we in Penn State IT have made it our mission to bring IT tools, services, and solutions to our customers—students, faculty, and staff at twenty-four campus locations—in the most innovative, accessible, and efficient ways possible. This ability helps us consistently support the University’s teaching, learning, research, business, and administrative needs.

IT Services

Box at Penn State

More than 66,000 students, faculty, staff, retirees, and other collaborators use Box—a cloud-based file storage tool that enables users to access, manage, and share data.

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

All faculty and staff members at every Penn State campus location use 2FA to add an extra layer of security and help ensure only authorized users can access critical online information, systems, and services.

About 17,500 students, faculty, and staff members use to complete nearly 43,500 hours of online training on hundreds of software topics, coding languages, business skills, and more.

Sites at Penn State

Sites at Penn State gives students, faculty, and staff members the ability to build websites, blogs, and portfolios through WordPress, a blogging platform.

IT Training

Penn State IT Training Services offers a variety of online and face-to-face training workshops, materials, and self-paced resources for improving teaching, learning, and work performance anytime, anywhere.

Customer Service and Support

In addition to walk-in hours, IT Service Desk consultants provide technology support via email and phone 24/7 (excluding University holidays).

Course Management and Learning Tools

From learning management systems and the One Button Studio to computer labs and the Knowledge Commons, students have access to resources for enhancing learning and cultivating IT skills valuable in college and for a lifetime.

Identity and Access Management

A variety of identity services helps protect the digital identities of students, faculty, and staff, while enabling the community to access hundreds of online resources at Penn State and other institutions.

Instructional Design and Faculty Support

Engagement initiatives enable faculty to collaborate with Penn State IT staff and instructional designers to explore emerging technologies and enhance teaching and learning online and in the classroom.

Repository Services

ScholarSphere and ArchiveSphere enable University researchers to collect, preserve, and share their academic and research data with the University community and a worldwide audience.

Wireless and Phone Services

Networking, communication, telephony, and consulting services enable Penn Staters to connect with peers across the University and with colleagues around the world.

The Penn State help request portal is a one-stop resource for University students, faculty, and staff to submit online help requests, find answers to commonly asked questions, discover IT services, and more.

IT Training and Professional Development

Find professional development opportunities in the formats and times that are convenient for you. We offer year-round technology training—online and in the classroom—and such events as the TLT Symposium, Elements: The Web Conference at Penn State, IT Matters Breakfast Speaker Series, MacAdmins Conference at Penn State, and more.
